3800 V6 PCM Types

Most 94-95 3800 V6 (incl Supercharged and Series II n/a) engines use the OBD1 Gen 2 computer. 94-95 Buick Regals use the underhood version OBD1 Gen 3 computer. Both the Gen2 and Gen3 models use the same type of removable mem-cal (PROM chip) assembly.

The Gen2 OBD1 computer uses non-weather sealed type connectors and terminals. These are the same type terminal used in all previous 3800 and 3.8L computers. The Gen3 OBD1 computer uses the newer style, underhood weather-sealed connectors and terminals. These terminals are the same as those used in OBDII computers but the connector bodies are different.

Both Gen1 and Gen2 OBDII PCMs use the same type of electrical connector and terminals.

Pertaining to Fiero engine swaps, all OBD1 3800 computers will fit in the stock Fiero ECM location with minimal work. The OBD2 computers will fit as well but major modifications may be required and you might loose your center console storage compartment; depending on how the PCM is mounted. All but the Gen2 OBD1 computer can be mounted in the engine compartment.
